Ferrous phosphite, FeHPO3

Ferrous phosphite, FeHPO3, is prepared as a white powder on saturating phosphorus trichloride with ammonia and mixing with a solution of ferrous sulphate. The precfpitate is washed with hot water and dried in a vacuum over sulphuric acid. When heated it decomposes with incandescence, evolving hydrogen gas.
