Sodium ferrithiocyanate, Na3Fe(CNS)6
Sodium ferrithiocyanate, Na3Fe(CNS)6.12H2O, is formed by allowing a mixed solution of sodium and ferric thiocyanates to crystallise over sulphuric acid. It crystallises in dark green hexagonal or rhombic crystals. These dissolve in water to a deep red solution, and are partially decomposed. In alcohol a violet solution is obtained, from which the salt may be recrystallised unchanged.
